~Please do not apply perfume, scented oils or lotions just prior to entering the Shala. Some students have odor sensitivities and/or allergies.

~The asanas are done without pushing or injury. Leave your worries and ego at the door.
~Classes are taught by a traditional diksha Yogini.
~Be mindful of self and others. We encourage you to be contemplative, to breathe deeply, to be comfortable and relaxed, to challenge and renew your outlook, to find balance and health, awareness and strength, flexibility and rejuvenation, perspective and gratitude.

Shala is a Sanskrit word meaning, "home, abode". A Yoga Shala is a 'place of yoga'. It is a gathering place for students of Traditional Yoga to practice, share, experience and grow.
It is not a 'gym' or 'studio', but a special place cared for by its users; meaning it is supported and managed by the student body, not a business staff.
Today, Yoga has become a business, one that is taught in teacher training classes even. But more than that, it has become an industry, generating 5.7 billion dollars a year. Sadly, this means that most people cannot afford to take a Traditional Hatha Yoga class - which conflicts with the original intent of Yoga – which is that it should be accessible (and affordable) to everyone.
If you are able to pay, then please do so.
If you are able to pay more, then please do so.
First and foremost, the Shala is Seva, a ‘selfless service’.
~ ~ ~
The Shala is a Traditional Yoga ‘school’ with ongoing classes. You can join at any time.
We teach Traditional Hatha Yoga - not dance or aerobics, not pilates or stretch classes.
If you are ready for real Yoga - a wholesome lifestyle, a relaxed and supportive environment, informed teaching - then it’s time for you to join Hamsa Yoga Shala.

$65 a month, unlimited Yoga.
From morning to evening, six days a week.
All Yoga .. All the time.
Not a business, but selfless service (Seva).
Are your ready for real?

Asana For Every Body means all the classes are accessible to everyone - beginners and experienced students alike - regardless of your flexibility or level of fitness.

Hamsa Yoga Shala has a serene setting - wooded on all sides, away from traffic and busy intersections - next to a babbling brook. It’s a nurturing location, perfect for getting fit, taking a break, being still and moving forward.

Hamsa Yoga Shala teaches Traditional Hatha Yoga, which predates the modern revisions of Yoga commonly found in the West.
Our resident Yogini shares the ancient ways of Traditional Yoga Masters - from Kundalini to Tantra, from Vinyasa to Asana, from Pranayama to Savasana, from Ashtanga to Shakahara, to Dhyana and Samadhi.
Our resident Wild Yogini and expertly trained teachers continually dedicate themselves to the study, practice and teaching of Traditional Yoga.
Come early to relax or meditate before class, or linger after to enjoy a cup of organic herbal tea.
The Shala is open to you and your family.
We welcome Yoga students of all ages and all physical backgrounds.
While you are here, all asana supplies (‘yoga mat’) are complementary.

“You can never step on the same piece of water twice. Yoga is like that - where each step is unrepeatable and unforeseen. Because of this, we must always respond to the constant change of our own personal adventure. After all, everything is constantly moving and changing. As one layer of understanding - of realization - melts into the next - revealing new patterns of thought, new climates of experience, and new mindscapes to explore - who can resist the urge to dance and play!”
-Yogini Valarie Devi
In this body there are rivers, seas, mountains, fields .. all the stars and planets as well .. agents of creation and destruction also move in it.
-Shiva Shamhita
